This interdisciplinary course focuses on the social intrigue surrounding paranormal phenomena from the disciplinary perspectives of sociology, religious studies, and literature. It examines the cultural systems that promote and sustain paranormal beliefs in both fiction and the real world. We will explore the social functions of paranormal thinking, the metaphorical dimensions of paranormal fiction, and the types of knowledge that paranormal theories enable. 2020 CORE: Interdisciplinary Studies.
