Description

This course provides an overview of common child and adolescent psychopathologies, such as autism, ADHD, anxiety and depression, and eating disorders. Discussions are presented regarding relevant educational state and federal categories under which children and youth with each disorder might be served in the school system (e.g., IDEA, Section 504) as well as state and community resources available for children and families. Researched-based school counselor skills and strategies will be discussed with a focus on specific categories of psychopathology. Integration and collaboration with other school-based services and community services will be addressed with additional and relevant ethical and legal aspects of such collaboration.
